Radio Biafra defies FG

In from Chukwuma Michael…

Radio Biafra, a station operating illegally from an unknown location is still on air despite yesterday’s claim by the Federal Government to have jammed its transmission signals.

While it was confirmed by listeners in Port Harcourt, Rivers State that the station was still broadcasting as at 8:00.pm Tuesday, Ripples also tuned in to the station’s online transmission this morning at www.radiobriafra.co.

It was still broadcasting as at the time of filling this report (8.45.am). Coordinator of the station, Nnamdi Kanu, who came on air at exactly 8.25.am, boasted that the station is unstoppable.

“We are live and direct; nobody can stop us; we are still operating on 102.1 frequency and no one can stop us because we have our own server, so I charge all our listeners in any part of the world to continue to listen and continue to spread the message.

“How can they say that they have jammed Radio Biafra? They cannot because we are Biafrans and our technology will always be superior to their own. While they were busy reading the manuals, we are busy inventing new technologies. If our forefathers can manufacture highly explosive bombs during the civil war, imagine what we can do now. We are unstoppable.”

The Permanent Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Information, Dr Yemi Folasade-Esan, who briefed President Muhammadu Buhari on the activities of the ministry, yesterday, had told reporters that the station is off air.

She said: “We also gave a report on (Radio Biafra) that because right now the signals from Radio Biafra have been jammed. The National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) has successfully jammed that. The NBC is also working with security operatives to get those that are behind that radio because it is an illegal radio. It is not licensed by anybody to be on Nigeria’s airwaves.”

But in a swift response, Radio Biafra wrote on Twitter that the NBC lied. “NBC lied to their master. Radio Biafra is live in BiafraLand. They cannot even ban our local station, do they even know we also transmit via satellite and online as well.”

The station also wrote unprintable things about the Nigerian government.
