Students protest in FUTA after reckless driver kills student

The students of Federal University of Technology, Akure, Ondo State on Wednesday took to the streets to react against the killing of a fellow student, identified as Israel Anuolowapo by a careless driver.

Anuolowapo, a 100 level student of the Mathematics Department of the institution was allegedly killed by a vehicle in front of the university main gate on Tuesday.

During the protest, the students blocked the busy Ilesa-Akure Expressway, which caused gridlock on the road as motorists, especially travellers were delayed for several hours

It was learnt that it took the intervention of the men of the Ondo State Police Command, to appeal to the students.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Femi Joseph, said the matter had been resolved while the government had agreed to erect speed breakers on the expressway.
