200 civilians die in Russia’s pounding of Syria

An Amnesty report says at least 200 civilians were killed as Russia pounded Syria in sporadic airstrikes in ongoing fight to free the country from the stronghold of ISIS.
The human rights group also accused Russia of using cluster bombs in civilian areas, and says such attacks could constitute war crimes but Moscow insists it is targeting only the positions of “terrorist” groups.

In its report, Amnesty International also raised concerns about the US-led coalition airstrikes in Syria.
It is on record that the U.S. rarely acknowledges civilian deaths in its air bombardment of the so-called Islamic State (IS), which began in September 2014 but some monitoring groups say civilian casualties could run into hundreds.
