Battle for soul of Edo APC deepens

The battle for who controls the machinery of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Edo State chapter is heating up, as plans have been set in motion to unseat the state chairman of the party, Barrister Anselm Ojezua.

Ripples gathered that the plan is to be perfected on Friday, as eight members of the state executive of the party have signed a vote of no confidence and passed it on the embattled party chairman.

It was also gathered that a vote of no confidence by eight members of the state executive has been signed.

It would be recalled, that Ripples had reported that the House of Representatives leadership crisis had pitched the state governor, Adams Oshiomhole against the national chairman of the party, Chief John Odigie Oyegun who had supported opposing candidates for the speakership position.

Sources at the APC secretariat said the camp of the Publicity Secretary of the party, Godwin Erhahon which is calling for the removal of the chairman listed sins against Ojezua to include placing himself and his personal secretary on a monthly salary of N300, 000 and N250, 000 respectivesly, while Erhahon is on a monthly salary of N60, 000.

The source claimed that while the office of the chairman enjoys a monthly impress of N1 million, of the N500, 000 met for the office of the Publicity Secretary, only N100, 000 is released to him monthly.

It was alleged that part of the entitlements of other executive members are also pocketed by the chairman.

Ojezua who is also very close to the Igbinedions who are strong members of the PDP is also accused of working for the PDP in the last general elections with the Erhahon group claiming to have evidence of such anti-party meetings with the Igbinedions.

It was learnt that the uneasy calm in the state chapter of the APC has forced Erhahon out of his office at the APC secretariat along Airport Road, and now operates from his personal office situated along Akpakpava Road, opposite the old Post Office, Benin.

The group swore not to only remove Anselm Ojezua as chairman of the party, but also threatened to disrobe him as a legal practitioner, on allegations of professional misconduct.

The group said Ojezua is living on borrowed time as chairman of the party stressing that but for the trip of the comrade governor out of the state, and entreaties from elders of the party, Ojezua would have long been removed as chairman of the state branch of the party.
