Brexit: EU officials pile pressure on UK to begin exit process

The British Prime Minister, David Cameron has ask President Muhammadu Buhari to come to the Summit of the “G 7” industrialised nations holding in Berlin, Germany from June 7 to’9 with a “wish list.”

This is contained in a message delivered to the President at a meeting on Friday shortly after the inauguration by British Secretary for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, Philip Hammond.

Hammond said his Prime Minister had requested for a list of what Nigeria wanted to help her succeed against the current challenges facing the country.

He said, “We are waiting for your own wish list”.

A statement signed by Mallam Garba Shehu, Head of the Presidential media team and made available to newsmen in Abuja on Saturday, said the meeting was a follow-up to an earlier one between the then President-elect and Prime minister Cameron.

He noted that commitments were given to the in-coming administration in several areas, including the fight against terrorism, power and energy and such matters of common concerns of migration challenges facing the continent as well what he called “intelligence fusion” to secure Africa from global terror.

He also raised the issue of “free trade” between the EU and Africa, a proposal he said enjoyed the support of several countries on the continent and in support of which he sought to enlist the backing of President Buhari.

Shehu said the President in turn promised to prepare the government’s aspirations for the summit which he said he will attend.

The statement also quote Mr. Han Changfu, Minister of Agriculture who led the Chinese delegation to the inauguration as asking President Buhari to open avenues for Chinese investments in Nigeria.

China promised to help Nigeria out in several areas including agriculture, power, railways and other infrastructure.

He also quote President of Congo Brazaville, Dennis Sassou Nguesso as saying that he had been mandated by other leaders in Central Africa to seek a meeting with their counterparts in the ECOWAS with a view to tackling common challenges.

Nguesso also requested President Buhari to assume his rightful place as the leader of Africa.

President Buhari agreed that the meeting holds before the nest African Union in South Africa as suggested.

This is a joke…free trade my foot, it’s like legitimizing all the pilfering Europe, especially Britain has been doing for centuries. Europe has little compared to Africa when it comes to natural resources and they know it, while they looked down on Africa and thought they could just plunder as they pleased, China saw business opportunities and worked on them, now Europe is scrambling. This is our chance to finally call the shots-Europe is in crisis and now more than ever they need access to our bountiful natural resources. ‘Wish list’, whose intelligence are they insulting? How about helping out the thousands that perish at sea crossing from Libya to Europe? How about helping Libya, the country that they destroyed? How about apologizing for supporting despotic regimes? I smell a new type of colonization. ‘Beware of Greeks bearing gifts’, the saying goes, but it should be; beware of the English bearing gifts.
