Ekiti Speaker impeached, 5 days to Fayemi's emergence as governor

Just five days to the October 16 inauguration of Dr. Kayode Fayemi as the new governor of Ekiti, the state House of Assembly has impeached its Speaker, Kola Oluwawole, and his Deputy Sina Animasun.

The Speaker and his deputy were booted out from their exalted office on Thursday afternoon by 14 lawmakers of the House.

The lawmakers in making sure that the positions were not left vacant installed Adeniran Alagbada, representing Ise constituency as the new Speaker and Segundo Adewunmi as his Deputy.

The lawmakers also suspended some members of the House.

Meanwhile, the former Speaker, Oluwawole has said his supposed impeachment was a rape on democracy, and the lowest level of lawlessness and illegality.

He said in a statement through his Special Assistant on Media, Stephen Gbadamosi, that those who carried out the illegality were provided police cover and they prevented other members and even staff of the House from entering the complex.
