Hadi Sirika asks Senate to approve new $461.8m loan for airports

The Federal Government will issue the requests for proposal on the establishment of Nigeria Air to prospective investors on March 8.

The proposal will help the government to evaluate the bidders’ financial status and their ability to execute the airline project which was launched in 2018, before it was suspended.

The Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika, disclosed this to journalists on Wednesday.

He said the winning bid for the Nigeria Air would be announced after the release of the proposal to the prospective investors.

The minister had said last year that Nigeria Air would take off in April.

The airline will be managed by a private company with the Nigerian public holding 46 percent, the federal government accounting for 5 percent and foreign investors taking up 49 percent.

Sirika said: “The transaction adviser is going to request for a proposal next week Monday. We will give them some weeks to respond to the request, then we will announce the winning bid.

The minister revealed that the government has constituted an interim board to manage the airline.

He added: “Currently, they are called interim because they will hold the airline on an interim basis up to the time the investors will come and take over. They are noble people, some are Nigerians and some are not.

“I think there are about nine of them running the airline and they will begin operations between now and July.”
