Liz Truss has tendered her resignation from office as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, less than two months after she assumed office

She made the announcement on Thursday afternoon at a media conference outside 10 Downing Street, the seat of the UK government.

Truss, who announced her resignation just after spending forty-four days in office became the shortest-serving leader in British political history following her decision.

Her announcement came after several weeks of political chaos as her Chancellor of the Exchequer, Jeremy Hunt, had rolled back virtually all of her economic agenda.

Truss, while announcing her resignation, said: “I came into office at a time of great economic and international instability. I recognize, given the situation, I cannot deliver the mandate to which I was elected by the Conservative Party.”

Truss had in September replaced the former Prime Minister Boris Johnson following his ineffectual policies, outrageous rise of tax culminating in crisis of costs of living, among other reasons.

According to reports, Truss is expected to be replaced by another lawmaker from her ruling Conservative Party in the shortest time possible.
