Lewandowski sets another record

Robert Lewandowski’s memorable week continued as the Bayern Munich striker reached 100 Bundesliga goals quicker than any other foreign player.

The Poland captain, 27, scored five goals in nine minutes in the midweek win against Wolfsburg and netted twice more against Mainz as title holders Bayern extended their 100% start to seven games.

After Thomas Muller missed a first-half penalty, Lewandowski headed in his 100th German top-flight goal in his 168th appearance.

The former Borussia Dortmund player, who arrived on a free transfer in the summer of 2014, rounded Mainz keeper Loris Karius to slot in the second.

And Bayern’s perfect start continued when summer signing Kingsley Coman added a third, converting from close range after an incisive run from Douglas Costa.

Lewandowski’s double took him to 10 goals for the season, making him only the second player after Bayern legend Gerd Muller to reach double figures after the opening seven Bundesliga matches.

Victory means Pep Guardiola’s side are five points clear of second-placed Borussia Dortmund, who host newly-promoted Darmstadt on Sunday.
