Nigerian govt proposes N24,000 as new minimum wage, debunks N30,000 claim
The Federal government on Wednesday said it only proposed to pay N24,000 as the new minim wage and not N30,000 as being reported in the media.
It said there was no truth in the reports and that it was yet to reach an agreement with the organised labour over the new national minimum wage
The Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige, made the disclosure while addressing newsmen on Wednesday at the end of the weekly Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting in Abuja

The minister explained that the organised labour agreed on N30,000. He noted that the organised private sector however reduced the figure to N25,000, while state governors proposed N20,000.
The Labour Minister, who referred to Convention 131 of the International Labour Organisation (ILO), said the cardinal principle to note in fixing the new minimum wage is the ability to pay.
