Oborodudu to fight for bronze after losing in Olympic semis

Nigeria’s Blessing Oborodudu has been beaten in the semifinal of the 68kg freestyle wrestling at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

Oborodudu made it to back-to-back Olympic semi-final earlier on Monday when she defeated France’s Koumba Larroque 6-2 in a fiercely contested quarterfinal bout.

But the Nigerian star will now be battling for a bronze medal after she lost 3-1 against Meerim Zhumanazarova of Kyrgyzstan in the semifinal.

This matchup is a rematch of their encounter at the Yasar Dogu championship in 2022, where Oborodudu triumphed with a 3-2 victory to win the gold medal.

But alas, this time, Oborududu struggled to gain momentum after clashing heads with her opponent early in the game, and it affected her in the second half of the match.

As it stands, Oborodudu still stands a chance to win a medal, and she will be back to contest for Bronze on Tuesday.
