Ohanaeze regrets security agents’ failure to fish out killers of Enugu Catholic priest

Ohanaeze distances self from ultimatum on govt to tag Shi’ites terrorist group

Ohanaeze Ndigbo has accused security agents of not making efforts to unearth and arrest killers of the murdered Enugu Catholic Priest, Rev. Fr. Paul Offu.

The Igbo apex social-cultural organisation argued that the killers of the priest were not beyond the searchlight of the security agents, should they want to do their job.

The Catholic priest, Offu, was killed since August 1, by gunmen suspected to be herdsmen, while travelling on Ihe-Agbudu Road in Awgu Local Government Area of the state.

Since the incident, his killers are yet to be unraveled and arrested by security agents.

In a statement on Wednesday, Ohanaeze wondered, “Are they (killers) spirits or small gods? These killers have flesh and blood and are not beyond the searchlight of the security agents once they want to do their job”.

The group said if there was serious in tackling insecurity problem in the country that the first two steps will be for the political class, at all level, to ensure measure to ensure culprits are caught and punished to serve as deterrence to others.

“The third and fourth are the sincerity of the ruling class in Nigeria and re-engineering of our security architecture.

“The fifth and sixth are provision of jobs for our youths and equity for in every leaderships at all levels,” Ohanaeze added.

On President Muhammadu Buhari’s recent promise to initiate use of drones and CCTVs to secure the South West, the group said it was a welcomed development.

It however, urged the government to ensure that the South East and all parts of the country were included in the security measure.
