Oil communities scold sacked NDDC board for suing Buhari

Published

on

A number people within the oil producing communities in the country are apparently satisfied with the action of President Muhammadu BUhari who recently sacked the board of the Niger-Delta Development Commission (NDDC), but angry that board members are challenging the action of the president.
The people under the aegis of the Communities Development Committee (CDC) of Oil and Gas Producing Communities in Niger –Delta, reprimanded the sacked board for seeking legal redress by suing President Buhari.
Making their views known in a statement, Chairman, Board of Trustees of the CDCs, Prince Maikpobi Okareme said, “We (oil producing communities) are totally in support of President Muhammadu Buhari and frown seriously at the dissolved board members’ court action.”

He, however, advised: “Mr. President should consult with all relevant stakeholders while constituting the new board to reflect wishes of the oil producing communities who are custodians of the oil environment because he who wears the shoes knows where it pinches the most.”
Okareme recalled that in a communique, July 2, the CDC drew the attention of President Buhari to the unfair appointment of board members without compliance with the law, especially the appointment of the former NDDC board chair, who is not from an oil producing community.
He said it was such anomaly and other inconsistencies that made the CDC to call for the dissolution of the commission’s board and suggested that the new board should reflect the needs of the oil producing communities, as enshrined in the NDDC law.
