PDP crisis: Warring groups seize party HQ

Published

on

A drama played out at the national secretariat of the PDP on Friday reminiscent of the election campaign period as rival groups of party supporters stormed the premises, to protest in support and against the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party.

Members of one of the groups under the aegis of the PDP National Renaissance Movement, led by Dr. Ayakeme Whisky, asked for the resignation of all members of the party’s NWC.

According to him, the honourable thing for the NWC members to do after the party’s poor outing in the last general election is to vacate office.

No sooner had they left than another group under the aegis of PDP Grassroot Forum came to the secretariat to rally support for the NWC.

Leader of the group, Desmond Adejoh, said the calls for the resignation of members of the NWC came from hirelings who were desperate to destroy the party, adding, that the party’s defeat should not be the basis of truncating the tenure of the NWC members.

Such a drama also played out during the campaigns when Buhari gave a lecture at Chatam House. Supporters of the PDP and APC turned out to respectively protest, and support his presence at the event.

It was later discovered that a good number of the supporters did not even know what they protesting about, but only turned up because they were paid to do so.

It’s a shame that PDP is now tearing itself apart from within.
