Aruna Quadri has made it to the quarter-finals of the Swedish ITTF Open after beating Portugal’s Freitas Marcos by four games to zero on Friday.
The Nigerian table tennis star, ranked 27 in the world, had caused a major upset at the tournament on Thursday when he defeated world no. 12 Wong Chun Ting 4-2 to reach this stage.
He had earlier seen off Kit Kwan Ho in the preliminary stage, winning 4-2 over the Hong Kong star to qualify into the main draw of the men’s singles.
27-year-old Quadri is now two matches away from the final. He will next play World No. 2, China’s Fan Zhendong, who defeated Germany’s Duda Benedikt, on Saturday.
