RE-IMPOSED SANCTIONS: Iran drags US to ICJ
Iran has dragged the United States to the International Court of Justice (ICJ) after it repeatedly accused Washington of imposing illegal sanctions and pulling out from the Iran nuclear deal.
Iran has filed a complaint with the ICJ and it is coming days after US secretary of state Mike Pompeo called on European allies to take a harsher stance against Iran.
Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said on Twitter Monday that the petition was filed to “hold [the] US accountable for its unlawful re-imposition of unilateral sanctions,”
“Iran is committed to the rule of law in the face of US contempt for diplomacy & legal obligations. It’s imperative to counter its habit of violating int’l law,” the tweet read.

Last week, US President Donald Trump said that with the US increasing sanctions on Iran, “at a certain point they’re going to call me and say ‘let’s make a deal,’ and we’ll make a deal.”
The US had announced that it would re-impose sanctions targeting critical sectors of Iran’s economy, such as its energy, petrochemical, and financial sectors.
Reports say Tehran is now experiencing relative economic shutdown as its biggest oil customers are succumbing to US pressure to stop doing business with Iran.
