Screening: Ministerial nominees lobby senators

Published

on

As the Senate prepares to start the screening of President Muhammadu Buhari’s ministerial nominees next week Tuesday, some of the nominees have started reaching out to the Senators, in a move suspected to be targeted as giving them an easy ride through the screening exercise.

This came to the fore, as a former National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Chief Audu Ogbe, Senator Chris Ngige, Dr. Ogbonaya Onu and Senator Udoma Udo Udoma were sited at the senate wing of the National Assembly on Thursday.

Though it is still unclear what their mission was at the Senate, informed sources said the nominees were there to familiarize themselves with the Senators and also submit their CVs.

In a related development, the Senate, Thursday, after resuming plenary at about 11am, went into a closed door meeting.

The meeting is believed to be in connection with outcome of last night’s meeting the President had with the leadership of the National Assembly at the State House.

A source in the Red Chamber said the meeting was called to discuss the details of the closed session Buhari had with the leadership of the National Assembly last night and also the petition presented by the three Senators representing Rivers State against the nomination of former Governor Rotimi Ameachi as a minister.
