Agric Minister booted out in Malawi for corruption

The minister of agriculture of Malawi has been shown the exit door by President Peter Mutharika as he was found guilty of corruption after a panel was set up to look into his case.

According to the southern African nation’s information minister speaking on Wednesday, Hon George Chaponda was sacked following an investigation into maize procurement.

The information minister said President Mutharika ordered an investigation last month into a $34.5 million government maize purchase from Zambia after allegations that the price had been inflated.

“The President has removed from Cabinet Hon George Chaponda as agriculture minister with immediate effect following after he was found with millions of money at his residence yesterday”, the minister said.
