Nigeria In One Minute
Anger, frustration over poor telecom services
Nigerians are angry and frustrated over the poor services rendered by mobile network operators (MNOs) in the last couple of weeks, just as incidences of dropped calls, network failure and connectivity challenges have now become regular and daily occurrences.
The deteriorating telecom services, according to the subscribers, are now seriously affecting their businesses and social interactions. Incidentally, the telecom consumers currently have no options, even with Number Portability (which allows subscribers move from one network to the other without changing their line) in place, as the poor services cut across all the four Global Systems for Mobile communications (GSM) networks.
But in spite of the current poor state of their services, there are strong indications that things may get worse in the coming weeks as the telcos brace up to challenge multiple taxation and indiscriminate shutting of base transceiver stations (BTS) by states and local governments agencies in the country.
The operators are also painting a hopeless and helpless situation with their stance that myriads of operating challenges would not enable them do any better.
