APC NWC cancels Lagos gov primary election

The National Working Committee (NWC) panel of the All Progressive Congress (APC) sent to monitor the party’s governorship primary in Lagos has officially canceled the exercise held across the 20 local government areas of the state.

The chairman of the panel, Mr. Clement Ebri, announced the cancellation when he addressed newsmen Tuesday evening at Protea Hotel, Alausa, Ikeja.

He declared the exercise “illegal” arguing that there was no way the election could have been held when the committee was still expecting the list of representatives of one of the two aspirants.

The primary election which had incumbent Governor Akinwunmi Ambode contesting against Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the preferred aspirant of the party’s national leader, Senator Bola Tinubu, were said to have started as early as 8am on Tuesday.

Already as early as 12 noon results of the polls were being announced at several wards with Sanwo-Olu having a free day as so many wards massively voted for him.

But addressing the press, Ebri said that the committee had only got the list of the party agents of one of the aspirants in the race barely an hour ago.

He said that “fresh time and date for the election will be announced later”.
Ebri went further to say that all materials meant for the election are still in their custody hence election could not have held.
