APC suspends Imo gov primaries indefinitely, shifts senate polls in 36 states

The Imo State All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primary election slated to hold today (Tuesday) October 2, has been postponed indefinitely.

The development was made known in a statement released by the party’s National Secretary on Tuesday afternoon. He did not give reasons for the postponement.

The APC spokesman also announced that the party’s senatorial primaries in 36 states which were meant to take place also on the same day have been postponed till Wednesday, October 3.

The APC had earlier postponed the Imo State governorship election to Tuesday. However following the controversies that trailed its conduct, the party was said to have been left with no better option than to cancel the exercise.

Governor Rochas Okorocha’s anointed, son-in-law and former Chief of Staff is battling for the party’s governorship ticket with Senator Hope Uzodinma, and the state’s deputy governor, Eze Madumere; among others.

It was learnt that the main reason for the postponement of the poll was as a result of both parties claiming victory in the botched exercise on Tuesday afternoon.
