Atiku campaigns to attract other defectors to PDP

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has called on ex-members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to return to the party.

According to him, aside PDP there “is no other political party” in Nigeria.
Atiku stated this when he paid a courtesy visit to the national leadership of the PDP at its national secretariat in Abuja on Tuesday.

Atiku had in 2014 dumped the PDP for the APC. He had then claimed that the now ruling party was his “last bus stop” and swore never to return to the PDP.

But speaking during his visit on Tuesday, Atiku expressed joy for the opportunity granted him by the Ahmed Makarfi led leadership of the PDP.

He was accompanied by Senators Ben Murray Bruce, Stella Omu and others. He was also seen with a group of young people adorned in specially-made T-shirts bearing ‘Atiku 100%’ inscription.

“I like to thank you very much indeed for this privilege and opportunity granted me to do so, realising that this is a very busy day for you. All what I have come to do today is to come and show my face. Many people have read in the media that I have returned home. This is home.

“Mr. Chairman, I want to congratulate you for a wonderful work which you have been doing to redeem the image of this party, to return it, rebrand it and return it to its original form.

“I want to assure you of my support and cooperation at all times, to make sure that these objectives are achieved by you and subsequently by your successors,” he said.

Atiku officially announced his return to PDP last Sunday haven earlier resigned as a member of the ruling APC.
