Bayelsa: APC has already written the result, PDP alleges

The Bayelsa State suplementary election is again generating controversy, as the national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Friday, raised the alarm that the election, billed to hold on Saturday, January 9 in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of the state may be a mere formalty.

This, according to the party, is because the All Progressives Congress, APC, in conjunction with the military, the police and Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, have already written the result of the yet-to-be conducted election.

Making this allegation on Friday in Abuja, the Acting National Chairman of PDP, Prince Uche Secondus, said in a statement that his party had gathered from intelligence report that the Saturday election would be a mere formality, adding that the APC government has already written the results ahead of the election.

“Southern Ijaw is the home local government of former governor of the state, the late Chief DSP Alamiseighga and a known Ijaw leader.

“The state is politically divided into Nembe, Ogbia and Southern Ijaw, that is the home LGA of ijaws where governor Dickson hails from.

“This is the strongest home base of the PDP. PDP has been winning elections in this core Ijaw LGA because it is the ancestral home of all Ijaws where the former governor and Ijaw leader DSP Alamiseigha and Dickson hail from.

“Intelligence report at our disposal shows that the election is just a mere formality as results have been written with INEC standing as the main culprit”, Secondus said.

The PDP boss further alleged further that some officials of the Federal Government and some ministers have directed the electoral body to write the results in favour of APC.

Secondus said: “There is the use of Police and military personnel to intimidate voters and also scare them away as results are already written as directed,” adding that winning the Bayelsa governorship election is part of APC’s plot of having a foothold in the South-South, saying, “all ministers and government officials from the zone have been directed to ensure that Bayelsa is delivered to the APC at all cost.”

Calling on the international community to be aware of the alleged plot of the APC controlled Federal Government to win the election at all cost, the party warned that the action could have consequences of hurting the nascent democracy in Nigeria.

Secondus further called on Nigerians and the global community to hold the APC responsible should any thing happen to democracy in the country “because of the APC’s quest to turn Nigeria into a one party state”, noting that it was this quest of winning at all cost that was responsible for the collapse of the Second Republic.
