Chelsea lose to Inter Milan in last preseason friendly

English Premier League champions, Chelsea, were defeated 2-1 by Serie A side, Inter Milan, in an International Championship Cup clash on Saturday.

New signing, Alvaro Morata, made his first start for the Blues in the match.

Inter got ahead some minutes before the whistle went off for the first half, when Chelsea’s Thibaut Courtois stretched his frame to keep out Stevan Jovetic’s spot-kick but the rebound fell kindly for the Inter player to stab home.

In the second half, Ivan Perisic drilled home from an angle in the 53rd minute after great build-up work by Stevan Jovetic to make it 2-0.

In the 74th minute, the Blues grabbed a consolation, when Kondogbia’s attempted back pass from 40 yards looped over Inter’s keeper Padelli and ended at the back of the net to make it 2-1.

It loss meant back-to-back defeats for Chelsea who had earlier lost 3-2 to Bundesliga champions, Bayern Munich, in the ICC on Tuesday.

Saturday’s defeat was also a party spoiler as the match was used to launch Chelsea’s new Nike away kit.

Chelsea will face Arsenal in the Community Shield on August 6, and begin their Premier League title defence against Burnley August 12 at Stamford Bridge.
