EKITI POLL: Fayemi may run into trouble as Court agrees to hear suit seeking to disqualify him

Ekiti State All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship aspirant and Minister of Mines and Steel, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, has reacted to media report that he walked out of a meeting with a leader of the party, Senator Bola Tinubu, and other leaders of the APC.

He said that the report was not true and explained that he had before leaving the venue informed the leaders that he would not be attending the second part of the meeting and got their permission to attend another meeting.

Fayemi was alleged to have stormed out of the meeting which held in Abuja on Tuesday between South West leaders of the party with the Ekiti State governorship aspirants.

He was also said to have refrained from attending to newsmen who had approached him on his way out of the venue.

However, in a statement through his Special Adviser on Media, Yinka Oyebode, Fayemi, a former governor of Ekiti State, denied the media report.

“The Minister said that contrary to misleading media reports and social media posts purporting that he walked out of the meeting, he only left the venue, like other attendees, at the end of the meeting.

“There was no basis for the minister to storm out of the meeting which was called by the leaders to proffer way forward for the party, in the face of the rescheduled Ekiti governorship primary. The Minister could not make the second part of the meeting when it reconvened later in the evening, having earlier taken permission from the leaders to attend another meeting.

“It is thus worrisome and highly embarrassing reading reports of purported ‘walk out’ on our leaders when nothing like that actually took place. We implore well-meaning members of the society and members of our great party to disregard the misleading reports,” the statement read.

Aside Tinubu, others leaders from South West at the meeting on Tuesday were Pioneer chairman of the party, Bisi Akande; former Ogun governor, Segun Osoba; former Ekiti governor, Niyi Adebayo and zonal vice chairman of the APC in the south-west, Pius Akinyelure.
