$9.6bn judgment debt attracts protests at UK embassy in Nigeria

Several Nigerians, led by Coalition of Civil Society Groups, on Monday trooped to the United Kingdom High Commission in Abuja to protest against a court judgment granted to Process and Industrial Development Ltd (P&ID) to take over $9.6bn worth of Nigeria’s asset.

The protesters declared their intention to continue the protest until the matter was reversed at the court.

They were noticed with different inscriptions on their placards. Among the inscriptions were; “$9.6bn judgement is a fraud,” “No to illegal take over of our national assets,” “Nigeria rejects fraudulent judgment from British judge,” among others.

The protesters, however, called on the UK Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, to assist President Muhammadu Buhari to fight corruption.

They also called on anti-graft agencies effect the arrest and prosecution of those behind the ordeal.
