The candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Alhaji Abubakar Audu, has denied a statement credited to the chairman of the party in the state that he will refund the N11 billion he was alleged to have laundered from state treasury if elected as the next governor of the state in the November 21 election in the state.

Audu, who made the denial after a meeting with the National Chairman of the APC and other party leaders in Abuja on Monday, said the campaign of calumny against him by the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, cannot save it from an imminent defeat in the coming governorship poll.

The former governor described as “arrant nonsense” reports that the state party chairman, Hadi Ametuo made the promise on his behalf.

“That is arrant nonsense, that is arrant nonsense. It is the PDP that originated the report and it will not help them”, he said.

Audu has a pending case in court with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission for allegedly misappropriating N11bn of funds belonging to the state during his tenure as governor between 1999 and 2003.
