KOGI: Melaye calls for state of emergency as Bello distances self from Assembly mayhem

Following the attack on Kogi State House of Assembly lawmakers on Tuesday, Senator Dino Melaye has called on Acting President Yemi Osinbajo to declare a State of Emergency in the state.

Melaye, who represents Kogi West in the Senate, said it was now necessary that a State of Emergency be declared urgently in the state before anarchy became the order of the day.

Earlier reports on Tuesday had claimed that the state governor, Yahaya Bello, allegedly stormed and locked up the state House of Assembly complex to stop the day’s plenary.

A report alleged that Bello stormed the assembly complex in the company of the State Commissioner of Police (CP), Wilson Inalegwu, to stop the state lawmakers’ plot to sack the majority leader of the House, Matthew Kolawole, and probe of the state’s finances.

Another report alleged that suspected thugs later invaded the Kogi State House of Assembly, disrupted its plenary and manhandled the lawmakers.

Responding to the development via a social media, on the platform “Chat with the Speaker”, Melaye condemned the attack.

He regretted, most especially, the situation of the member representing Igalamela Odolu Constituency, Friday Sanni Makama, who resumed sitting after his victory at the Kogi State High Court Lokoja over his six months suspension from the House for alleged anti-legislative activities.

He said, “The draconian Idi Amin approach to governance by Yahaya Bello today as displayed by his criminally minded hooligans and hired killers in usurping the legislative powers and priviledges of the parliament is a clear manifestation of satanism.

“The unwarranted attack on Hon. Friday Sani Makama shall not be swept under the carpet.

“We are not in a banana republic. It is manifestly clear now that the acting President must declare a state of Emergency in Kogi State before Anarchy becomes Total.

“The economic cankerworm and social scavenger called Bello must be tamed before he finishes spending the little political capital left for APC in Kogi. We must not all keep quiet and allow this Stranger destroy the labour of genuine APC members in Kogi.

“We will not allow him to take us back to Egypt. We must rescue Kogi NOW!!!!.”

In his reply, through his director general, media and publicity, Kingsley Fanwho, Governor Bello distanced himself from the Assembly attack.

He insisted that his administration will not condone any act of thuggery and that anyone responsible for the attack must face the full weight of the law.

Can the president cancel Kogi state finally please? It seems the governor wants to turn the state into something else, and Melaye who’s representing the state in the house is another useless man who shouldn’t be allowed in politics at all

What about the security men or does this mean the law makers just enter the House of Assembly complex without any form of security in and around ? This is unspeakable!
