Gov Bello locks up Kogi Assembly, halts plenary over alleged probe of finances

Emerging reports from Kogi has alleged that the state governor, Yahaya Bello, on Tuesday stormed and locked up the state House of Assembly complex to stop the day’s plenary.

The governor who was said to have stormed the Assembly complex in the company of the State Commissioner of Police (CP), Wilson Inalegwu, allegedly carried out the action to stop the state lawmakers’s plot to sack the majority leader of the House, Matthew Kolawole, and probe of the state’s finances.

Kolawole, is said to be a staunch supporter of the state governor.

It was further learnt that the state commissioners for Justice and Finance; Mohammed Ibrahim and Idris Asiwaju, respectively, were summoned by the Assembly to appear before it to testify how the state government disbursed the bailout funds and the two tranches of the Paris-Club loan refunds it got from the Federal Government.

Governor Bello has been buffeted by labour crisis coming from workers, across different sectors of the economy, who are clamouring for payment of salaries and pension arrears. He recently shut down the state university with the academic staff unions vowing to make Kogi ungovernable if their demands are not met.
