The Nigerian Association of Chambers of Commerce Industry, Mines and Agriculture (NACCIMA) on Tuesday decried the banning of Nigerian products and farm produce, by European Union, which it said was in bad fate.
According to the National President, Chief Bassey Edem, urgent steps need to be taken to address it.
Edem’s position was conveyed in his speech which was read by the first Deputy national President, Iyalode Alaba Lawson at a training programme organised for private sector in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.
And speaking with reporters, shortly after the training with participants drawn from all the states in the country, Mrs Lawson also described the banning of the Nigerian products as very untidy.
“What we are trying to do is to organise private sector to wake up to their responsibility in assuring the quality of the products leaving the shores of Nigeria to world.

“It is high time for us to wake up and make sure the product leaving Nigeria is of good quality and at the same time they have all the essential infrastructure of the labels that they really need to promote these goods so that they will be able to compete internationally with all other products either from Ghana , South Africa or anywhere.
“It is very disheartening that products from Nigeria are being refused and sometimes they will say they are banned. That is the reason we are here training people that are really involved to create awareness on how we can improve on these products have the quality that is needed for the product.”
Lawson however, noted that the efforts of the Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) and National Agency for Foods Drugs Administration and Control (NAFDAC) in trying to ensure the quality of made in Nigeria goods are not enough.
According to her, there should be a national quality body with the infrastructures to check products leaving the country for global markets.
