Nigeria to host World Pension Summit

Nigeria is set to host the second edition of World Pension Summit (Africa Special) slated for October 5 and 6.

The Director-General of National Pencom Commission, Mrs. Chinelo Anohu-Amazu, who disclosed this in Lagos on Friday during the launch of the commission’s new logo said the event with the theme “Building Sustainable Pension Systems in Africa’’, would hold at Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja.

She noted that Nigeria remains a leading country in terms of pension administration in Africa, a feat which she said lends itself to be replicated by other countries.

“I am happy to say that the successes recorded so far in the implementation of the Contributory Pension Scheme, lends itself to be replicated in other jurisdictions across Africa.

“It is with this in mind that the commission partnered with the ‘WorldPensionSummit, The Netherlands’, a global pension brand, to host the maiden edition of the WorldPensionSummit – Africa Special in Abuja, Nigeria, last year, to discuss and share ideas on pension administration in Africa.

“The summit was adjudged a great success as over 400 delegates from 23 countries, including 15 African countries attended,” she said.

In the coming summit, the Director-General stated that “reforms and developments in African pension systems (regional reports) and global developments in pension systems” would be part of the issues that would be discussed.

She said other topics to be treated would include “The real deal: Structuring pension investments for sustainability” and “Expanding investment frontiers for pension funds.”

The Co-founder of the “WorldPensionSummit, The Netherlands,” Eric Eden, said there was need to build trust, transparency and accountability to alleviate poverty among retirees in the world.
