ESCAPE OF SUSPECTS: Melaye to sue IGP, as police notifies Interpol

Governor Yahaya Bello-led government of Kogi State has described as false, claims by Senator Dino Melaye that the governor was behind the plot to recall him from the Senate.

Melaye, who represents Kogi West senatorial district at the Senate had soon after the court sacked his application to stop his recall process on Monday, alleged that Governor Bello, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and top Federal Government officials were behind the plot to recall him by his constituency.

He had also added that the presence of Kogi State Attorney General at the Federal High Court in Abuja on Monday bears credence to his claims.

But reacting in Lokoja while addressing newsmen, the Director General on Media and Publicity to Governor Bello, Kingsley Fanwo said Melaye lied that the state government was behind his travails.

He said, “We saw the tweet by the senator that the Attorney General of the state was at the Federal High Court … where the court gave a legal nod to the process of his recall.

“To set the record straight, neither the Attorney General nor any state official was at the said court today.

“We are not a party to the suit which was between the Senator and INEC. We urge the senator to face realities in his battle with the people of his constituency.

“We consider such falsehood unnecessary as we have no interest in the issues that were determined.”

Dino had gone to court to stop INEC from continuing his recall process after the commission said it has received required number of signature from the senator’s constituency for his recall.

Ruling on the matter on Monday Justice Nnamdi Dimgba of the Federal High Court Abuja, had dismissed Melaye’s prayer on the grounds that it lacked merit and directed INEC to continue with the process to recall him.
