Obasanjo may still write more letters, as he vows to speak out when things are wrong in Nigeria

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has said he would not refrain from speaking out when things are not right in Nigeria.

He said at his age, he was not afraid of death, adding that God had favoured him and that he was happy for God’s blessings upon his live all these years.

He spoke at the two-day interactive session of the Presidential Youth Mentorship Retreat held at the Youth Development Centre, Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library, Abeokuta.

Obasanjo said his concern remained to see how he could build leaders who would help Africa to get to her promised land, explaining that the youth programme was intended to facilitate the release of the creative energies of young people.

Engaged by the youths during interactive section at the programme, Obasanjo told the participants, “I’m not afraid of death at my age, God has favoured me and I appreciate God’s blessings on me over these years.

“My concern over the years is to build leaders of Africa. My greatest concern is tomorrow and that tomorrow begins today.

“The world today is in crisis, I believed that youths need interaction from leaders and learning from them. I want to be inspired at the end of this programme.

“I want you to identify yourself and use your identity to achieve service to God and humanity.

“I want you all to come out individually and collectively in making Nigeria and Africa at large a great nation.”

Recall that the former president had written open letters to the ruling governments lamenting a number of issues in the country.

His letters usually stir controversies, as many Nigerians agree with his submissions, while others, mostly supporters of the present administration in question usually lambast him, saying he is seeking attention.
