Police arrests student over murder of Bangladesh professor
The police in Bangladesh has arrested a student over the hacking to death of an English professor after preliminary investigations were carried out.
According to police sources, the student has not been charged over the murder of Rezaul Siddique who was killed in Rajshahi but was being held for interrogation.
Senior police officer,Tamijuddin Sarker, said the student was arrested on Saturday night, hours after the killing of Siddique, which was claimed by the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL, also known as ISIS) group.
“The student was not formally charged for the murder but was detained for interrogation,” the officer said, adding that a six-member panel of investigators had begun working to resolve the murder.
58-year-old Siddique was attacked in the country’s northwestern city of Rajshahi as he walked to the bus station on Saturday.
Police sources say he was attacked from behind with machetes in a pattern of the attack which fitted with previous killings of secular and liberal activists in the country.
