Sand Eagles move to 20th in World rankings

The Super Sand Eagles of Nigeria have moved up 10 places on to the 20th position in the latest joint ranking of Beach Soccer World Wide (BSWW) and FIFA.

This is after the Nigeria beach soccer team finished second place at the 2016 African Beach Soccer Cup of Nations in Lagos, which also qualified them for the 2017 FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup to be hosted in the Bahamas.

The BSWW, which takes into account all the panorama of Beach Soccer events and competitions and considers the many aspects and factors observed by the FIFA/Coca-Cola Men’s World Ranking, placed the national beach soccer team at the 20th position with a total of 756 points.

Thus, in its rankings released in December 2016, Nigeria are now third in Africa but behind Egypt, who are in the 16th position with 908 points.

Senegal, who defeated hosts Nigeria at the finals of the just-concluded Beach AFCON in Lagos, are now Africa’s best with 1028 points in 12th place in the world. Morocco were 21st, Madagascar, 23rd, and Cote d’Ivoire, 28th.

Portugal ended up as 2016 world best team ahead of Russia, Brazil, Italy, Iran and Switzerland, and the next World ranking will be published in January 2017.
