Somali govt says US was tricked into killing its troops

The Somali government has suggested that the US was deceived into launching an airstrike in northern Somalia which claimed the lives of 22 soldiers.

An official from the region said the US was duped into attacking the Somali troops even as the Galmudug region’s Security Minister Osman Issa said 22 of his soldiers had been killed in the early Wednesday strike.

He also added that the rival region of Puntland had requested air support on the pretext that the men were al-Shabab fighters.

“Puntland misinformed the United States and thus our forces were bombed,” Issa told Reuters news agency.
