Wike remains governor of Rivers State, Supreme court affirms

The Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, Wednesday evening, got the Supreme Court stamp of authority, as the apex court upheld his election, affirming that he remains the validly elected governor of the state.

The Rivers State governorship election was arguably the most controversial in the 2015 general elections, with the All Progressives Congress, APC, fighting tooth and nail to have Wike’s victory upturned.

The Supreme Court, in the ruling, however did not give reasons for the verdict, electing to do that on February 12.

It would be recalled that the Rivers State Governorship Election Tribunal nullified Wike’s victory while the Court of Appeal, also on December 16, affirmed the judgment of the tribunal.
