ALLEGED PADDING: Jibrin's wishes fulfilled as EFCC probes Dogara

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission said it has finally begun investigation into the 2016 budget padding allegations against the House of Representatives Speaker Yakubu Dogara, Deputy Speaker Yusuf Lasun, Minority Leader Leo Ogor and the Chief Whip, Alhassan Ado-Doguwa.

Abdulmumin Jibrin, a former House of Representatives Appropriation Committee chairman, who is currently on suspension, had on August 1, 2016 through Hammart & co (Tafida chambers), petitioned the anti-graft commission to probe the alleged criminal insertion into the 2016 budget, purportedly carried out by the principal officers of the lower federal legislative chambers.

However, the EFCC after 10 months, in a letter to Jibrin, signed by the acting Head, Extractive Industry and Fraud Section, Michael Wetkas, on behalf of its acting chairman, Ibrahim Magu, said that it has commenced investigation into the matter and demanded that Jibrin come and make some clarification.

The EFCC letter dated June 9, 2017 reads in part, “The commission has commenced investigation into the petition of corruption and corrupt practices and abuse of office reported on August 1, 2016 by Hammart & co (Tafida chambers) on your behalf against Yakubu Dogara, Yusuf Lasun, Alhassan Ado Doguwa, Leonard Okuweh Ogor and others.

“In furtherance of the investigation and due to unfolding findings, it has become imperative to request that you attend another interview with the team through Ibrahim Ahmed on June 13, 2017 at 3rd floor Block A, No 5 Fomella Street, off Adetokunbo Ademola Crescent Wuse 2, Abuja by 10am to clarify some issues to enable us conclude investigations.”
