Borno gov names new deputy

Following the vacancy created by the death of deputy governor, Alhaji Zannah Mustapha, Governor Kashim Shettima of Borno state has nominated the state’s former commissioner of Youths Empowerment and Poverty Alleviation, Alhaji Usman Mamman Durkwa to fill the position.

Alhaji Mustapha died on Saturday August 15th, 2015 in Yola, capi‎tal of Adamawa while he was on an official assignment.

Spokesman to the Governor, Malam Isa Gusau confirmed that Shettima has in a letter, dated Monday, October 5, 2015 and addressed to the speaker, Borno State House of Assembly, forwarded the name of Durkwa seeking the approval of the Assembly.

According to him, “Shettima acted in accordance with the powers conferred on him by Section 191 Sub-Section (3) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (As Amended)”.

It was gathered, that the residence of the new deputy governor nominee has been surrounded by security agents ahead of his formal announcement as deputy to governor as of Monday afternoon.
