The election of Governor Emmanuel Udom of Akwa Ibom State suffered a setback on Wednesday, as the state governorship election petition tribunal ordered a rerun of the governorship election in the state.

The tribunal, in its judgement, ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to conduct re-run election in 18 of the 31 local government areas of the state.

The Justice Sadiq Umar-led panel in its judgment, noted it was satisfied that there were discrepancies during the governorship election held on April 11, further directing INEC to conduct the re-run elections.
