Buhari says Benue killings one too many, directs halt on further attacks

President Muhammadu Buhari has commiserated with Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue over the killings of no less than 20 indigenes of the state by suspected Fulani herdsmen.

The attack which happened in Guma and Logo local government areas of the state in the New Year also left many injured and wanton destruction of property.

Buhari reaction to the development was contained in a statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu.

The statement partly read, “While expressing immense sadness at the ‘wicked and callous’ attacks on even innocent children, the president assured the governor and people of the state that relevant security agencies have been directed to do everything possible to arrest those behind the regrettable incidents and avert further attacks.”

He added, “This is one attack too many, and everything must be done to provide security for the people in our rural communities.”

President Buhari also commiserated with families of the victims and wished the injured speedy healing.
