Bus plunges into river killing 43 in Argentina

At least 43 people died in rural northern area of Argentina on Monday after a bus carrying Argentine frontier police plunged into a river, a spokeswoman for the provincial governors office said.

Authorities say 51 people were in the bus which was part of a three-bus convoy. The bus plunged into the Balboa River near the northern Argentina city of Rosario de la Frontera, roughly 1,160 kilometers (720 miles) northwest of Buenos Aires.

An official in the office of the governor of Salta province, Lucía Mallozi, said that eight people were hospitalised after the incident.
Two were flown by helicopter to a hospital in the city of Salta, Mallozi said. The remaining six were being treated at a hospital in Rosario de la Frontera and their injuries were not considered critical, according to Mallozi.
