65 yrs later: Korean War veteran laid to rest after he went MIA

A Korean War veteran has been laid to rest in Massachusetts 65 years after he was declared missing in action.

The remains of Sgt. Robert Dakin was in a coffin pulled by horses through downtown Waltham, where hundreds waved American flags or held “welcome home” signs, the Boston Globe reports.

Dakin was later declared to have been killed in action at the age of 22 when he disappeared during the Battle of Chosin Reservoir in 1950.

But his remains were only identified recently through DNA testing.
Dakin’s corpse were among many that North Korea returned to the United States in the 1990s.
