Cech considers retirement after Euro 2016 exit

Czech Republic legend, Petr Cech has revealed that he will take some time to decide on his future in international football after their elimination from Euro 2016 last night.

Cech’s team lost 2-0 to Turkey last night in their final group stage game, meaning they finished bottom of Group D on just one point having drawn with Croatia last week.

The Czech’s conceded five goals in their three group games after losing 1-0 to Spain, drawing 2-2 with Croatia and conceding another two to Turkey on Tuesday night.

That took Cech’s total of conceded goals in the tournament proper to 21 which is more than any other goalkeeper in the history of the tournament, and the 34-year-old has now claimed he’s considering his future in international football.

“I will take a time to decide if I continue in national team (or retire),” Cech told reporters post-match, via Karel Haring.

Cech has made 121 appearances for Czech Republic having made his debut in 2002 while playing for Sparta Prague. A few short months later he was in France playing for Rennes and it only took another 18 months before Chelsea’s new money came calling.

Since then, the goalkeeper has won four Premier League titles and remained his country’s only hope in goal, so should he decide to retire from international football, it would seriously harm the Czech’s chances of qualification for the World Cup in two years.
