COVID-19: Osun Assembly summons commissioner over distribution of palliatives

The State of Osun House of Assembly Wednesday summoned the state Commissioner for Youths and Sports, Yemi Lawal, to appear before the House on Thursday over the proposed disbursement of palliatives to the people by the state government.

The Osun State governor, Gboyega Oyetola, had last week ordered the payment of stipends to 25,907 vulnerable citizens in the state to cushion the effects of the coronavirus-induced lockdown in the state.

The Speaker of the Assembly, Timothy Owoeye, who gave the directive at the plenary, said it is important for the commissioner to explain to the lawmakers the modalities for the disbursement of the palliatives.\]

He said: “We are aware of plans by the state government to disburse cash palliatives to residents of the state. It is important for the Honourable Commissioner for Youths and Sports to appear before the House tomorrow (Thursday) and intimate us on the beneficiaries and the modalities for disbursement.”
