DAMASCUS: 7 feared dead in 3 car bomb blasts

Tragedy struck in the Syrian capital of Damascus when three car bomb blasts claimed the lives of seven victims in the first suicide bombing incident to hit the city since the month of March.

There are however conflicting reports on the number of casualty following the car bomb blasts with the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a UK-based organisation that reports on the war, saying 21 people were killed while police at the scene of the incident put the number of victims dead at seven and 13 others injured.

Reports say the casualties in Sunday’s attack occurred when one of the bombers set off his device after being encircled near the Old City district of Bab Touma.

The other two car bombs were destroyed by the authorities, state media said.

As at the time of filing in this report, there was no immediate claim of responsibility for the bomb attacks which saw security forces preventing the militants from reaching their targets which would have led to more deaths.
