Davido, AY risk jail, as Lagos drags celebrity to court for alleged tax default

A few days after serving papers to rapper Falz for failure to remit tax after the successful staging of his maiden show “The Falz Experience”, the Lagos State Government has reportedly dragged HKN boss Davido to court for tax evasion.

Court papers filed by the LASG indicted the singer and he has thus been charged before a Lagos High Court and risks a jail term if convicted for failing to remit tax after claiming he made half a billion naira from his 30 billion concert.

According to a source in the know, another celebrity caught up in the move by LASG to tackle high-profile tax defaulters include comedian Ayo Makun aka AY.

“Notable among these alleged tax offenders are two of Nigeria’s celebrated artistes –Davido and AY, the comedian. Both artistes have had a long standing battle with the Lagos Internal Revenue Service for tax evasion.

“Davido, who has record deals with Sony Music Entertainment and endorsement agreements with various companies in Nigeria, has not filed his tax returns or remit any taxes to the Lagos State Government,” the source said.

The government of Lagos State has promised that other defaulters who do not obey the state tax law will soon appear in court as it moves to ensure high level of compliance with its tax laws.
