US Senate reaches deal to permanently end govt shutdown

Despite outcry from the Muslim world, Israeli transport minister is planning to name a railway station currently under construction after US President Donald Trump.

Reports say the minister Yisrael Katz noted that he wanted to honour US president for his decision to recognise Jerusalem as Israel’s capital by naming him after the railway station next to the Western Wall and located under Jerusalem’s Old City.

The proposed new railway tunnel and station would form part of an extension of a high-speed line from Tel Aviv that is set to open next year.

Meanwhile, the decision by Trump to recognise Jerusalem as the new capital of Israel has been described as “dangerous” and “insulting” by Palestinian Christian leaders.

The US move is offensive to “Christians and Muslims around the world who consider Jerusalem as an incubator of their most sacred, spiritual and national heritage”, Atallah Hanna, the archbishop of Jerusalem’s Greek Orthodox church, said in a statement on Saturday.

Protests have been sparked across the Muslim world after the December 6th announcement which has drawn the ire of many Palestinians especially.

Trump’s Jerusalem decision which has been declared null and void by the General Assembly of the United Nations has sparked anger across the Muslim world and has drawn the ire of many Palestinians especially.
