Despite threat of sanctions, North Korea preparing for 6th nuclear test, reports say

Despite threat of sanctions from world powers, reports say North Korea led by defiant leader Kim Jong Un could be in the final stages of preparations for a sixth nuclear test.

That much information was revealed by a U.S. think tank after Satellite imagery of North Korea’s main nuclear test site was taken over the weekend.

Washington-based 38 North, a website that monitors North Korea, said the images from Saturday showed the continued presence of vehicles and trailers at the Punggye-ri test site and signs that communications cables may have been laid to a test tunnel.

Water was also being pumped out and was draining downhill “presumably to keep the tunnel dry for monitoring or communications equipment,” it said.

“The combination of these factors strongly suggests that test preparations are well under way, including the installation of instrumentation. The imagery, however, does not provide any definitive evidence of either a nuclear device or the timing of a test.”

Recall that three days after the US warned that it would consider military action against North Korea if it was provoked, Pyongyang replied by stating that it is not frightened by US threats of possible pre-emptive military action to halt its nuclear and missile buildup.

Pyongyang made the comments through its Foreign Ministry condemning US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson’s recent talk of tougher sanctions, more pressure, and possible military action against North Korea.
