Nigeria male U-17 team, the Golden Eaglets sent warning signals to other contenders at the ongoing FIFA U-17 World Cup in Chile by walloping Australia 6-0 with impressive Victor Osimhen in a hat-trick in Vina Del Mar and setting up a quarter-final meeting against Brazil.
The Eaglets who are the defending champions wasted no time in their assignment as they bounced back stronger after their 2-1 loss to Croatia during the last group game at the weekend.
Victor Osimhen showed just why he is the tournament’s leading goal scorer by bursting forward with pace and power on the left, before turning his defender and sliding the ball impressively inside the far post in the 22nd minutes to give Nigeria an early lead.
Almost immediately Nigeria were two in front as Funsho Bambgboye went to ground in the penalty area, and Kelechi Nwakali coolly slotted home the resultant penalty.
The two goals seemed to inspire the Nigerians who took a greater hold as the half wore on creating several half-openings around the Aussie goal.
On the resumption of the second half, Osimhen scored twice in the space of six minutes, the second with another laser-perfect drive into the top corner.

The deflated Aussies conceded to more goals in the dying minutes as firstly substitute Edidiong Michael Essien, and then Samuel Chukwueze, inflicted further pain as Nigeria stormed into the last-eight with confidence.
Meanwhile, the Emmanuel Amuneke tutored team will on Sunday battle their Brazilian counterparts which needed a stoppage-time penalty kick to secure a 1-0 over a brave New Zealand side in Vina Del Mar to advance quarter-finals.
To get to the quarterfinal, the Brazilian team who are rated second in the competition behind Nigeria, lost 1-0 in their opening match against Korea Republic before managing a 1-0 victory in their second game against England.
The team also defeated African representative Guinea 3-1 to finish on six points behind Korea Republic in Group B.
